Hablemos Press (CIHPRESS) is a Cuban nonprofit based in Havana and founded in February 2009 by independent journalists and human rights activists, for the purpose of gathering and disseminating news within the country and for the rest of the world. Today, the center counts more than 100 collaborators in all provinces and municipalities, its own website – reaching more than 1,000 visitors per day – more than 250 videos on YouTube and 400-600 weekly copies of the Hablemos Press newspaper. They report from and for Cuba on politics, culture, commerce, finance, art, literature, and sports—anything that’s news.
Roberto de Jesús Guerra Pérez, one of its founders and its current director is a recognized writer, blogger and self-taught journalist.
In 2003, after recently moving to El Vedado in Havana, he discovered journalism through radio and was hooked ever since. In 2009, he founded the Hablemos Press Information Center as an independent news agency to break through government censorship and inform the world about events that the official media tries to silence. His objective was to create a system for gathering and disseminating information and for training journalists and collaborators all over Cuba.
